What We Believe

The following is a synopsis of the core beliefs of Bethel Church of Norfolk paraphrased and written in paragraph form. For more detailed and scripturally based information about what we believe, choose the link Tenants of Faith.

Core Beliefs
We believe the Bible is true - it is Truth, right - without error, and eternal – it is not altered or diminished by time or cultural changes. We believe the Bible is the divine revelation of God, and proves the existence of God in three persons; the Father, the Son – Jesus the Lord and Christ, and The Holy Spirit. We believe the Bible reveals His love, and His plan for mankind. The Bible is the only source of our doctrine, and the authority by which our conduct is judged.

We believe that all of mankind is created in the image of God, but has been separated from God through the sin of Adam. Every person is born with Adam’s “sin nature,” and has the opportunity to be saved and reconciled to God by believing and following Jesus Christ.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God, conceived supernaturally by the Holy Spirit, and born of a virgin. We believe that He is the second Person of the Trinity, and lived as a man on earth. He lived without sin, and was crucified as a sacrifice for the sins of the world. He was resurrected from the dead, and is seated at the right hand of God as our Savior and Lord.

We believe that salvation unto eternal life cannot be earned, but is a gift from God. We believe that salvation can only be obtained by faith in Jesus Christ.

We believe the Church is the Body of Christ; the collective sum of those who have accepted God’s salvation through Jesus Christ. We believe the Church locally and globally is called to continue to do the works that Jesus did as a demonstration of God’s love to the world.
